Walking from Johannesburg to Cape Town

Hi, my name is Gregory Gerhardt. I work for Drupal agency Amazee Labs. After three years of employment we get one month off to free our mind and do something really extreme. My project? I'm walking from Johannesburg to Cape Town. See my route

Departed from Karl & Lotti's B&B at 03.30am. Right out of Hoopstad I stumbled upon a drunkie peacefully snoring away on a 100km/h road. After five minutes the local police turned up and threw him into their vehicle like a bag of potatoes - Sunday morning routine I guess. Walked on for 20 kilometers when my left ankle started to give me serious problems again, increasing, third day in a row. Average speed dropped to about 4km/h, whereas 5 would be required to meet my schedule. Dania picked me up and drove me to Kimberley.

Saturday, slept in until 6. Wendy prepared a wonderful breakfast and I enjoyed some hours with the Calders, Dania and Ben. Dania dropped me off at 11.00 to finish up the remaining 30 kilometers  to Hoopstad. Almost no traffic due to the weekend. Rain from 12.00 to 13.30. Strong south westerly winds and a dinner at the country club in Hoopstad; felt like a proper Saturday. Have almost no issues with blisters anymore.

Left Bothaville at 04.45. This time no roosters, but dog barks escorting me out of town. Arriving on the plains I saw the most wonderful sunrise in years. Moving. Within minutes it got cloudy, storm winds dashing over the plains and cooling me off while I did my step-by-step routine for about 8 hours. Once in a while a farmer stopping to ask if i I meed any support. After 50 km I got nailed down by a heavy thunderstorm. When hell broke out all over my head I decided to get rid of all things metal and hunker down. And then it rained cats and dogs.

After a night of rain, the day started off chilly. Left the guesthouse at 4 am and limped myself warm under the    occasional company of some roosters declaring their territory. Dusk released a beautiful countryside withl low laying fog. Black people commuting, snuggled up on open cargo trucks. Left and right a play with three acts: Maize, Sun Flowers and ahead a dead straight road. After 8 my physical condition started to deteriorate rapidly.

Some raindrops in the morning. Was busy walking through the Vredefort crater all day, the  largest verified impact crater on Earth with a diameter of approx 250 km.
