Today was the day! I started in Downtown Johannesburg at 05.30 from the Ashanti Urban Hotel at 10 Anderson street. Perfect temperature, dry, the smell of the big city, armies of minitaxis rushing into town, horns, black ladies singing on their way to work. After a few hours I reached buzzing Soweto, one of the most colourful places I've come across. Friendly and polite the people, invites from minitaxi drivers who wanted to put an end to my suffering, handshakes, friendly fists, whistles, calling me either Baba or Bossa. After Soweto I spent the second half of today's agenda on the N12 to Wagterskop. Arrived at the most hospitable B&B called Klipfontein Guest House, run by Audrey and James. Enjoyed a lovely plate of Boerekos! See my route here (not 100% the way I took) and impressions in the gallery below. Heading for Parys tomorrow. Wondering how my feet will take the 72 km.

What an excellent way to spend a month and really get to know more about the country and its people. Good pictures too, so there should be a book in this. All the best.
