Walking from Johannesburg to Cape Town

Hi, my name is Gregory Gerhardt. I work for Drupal agency Amazee Labs. After three years of employment we get one month off to free our mind and do something really extreme. My project? I'm walking from Johannesburg to Cape Town. See my route

One thing I didn't want to end up with was electronic warfare.

Ironically the selection process for the container of all my equipment, the rucksack, wasn't really profound. However, within the one hour I spent at Transa Zurich, the Bach Day Dream 3 convinced me the most. It is robust and simple, although, with 2 kg, not exactly light weight. As I will be walking all day I also wanted a system that provides a channel for the hydration system and an integrated multi pouch for my chest. Again Bach offered the best solution (once it's installed at least).

One more day and I'll be walking my first leg from Johannesburg through Soweto to Wagterskop. The weather forecast presents a mixed picture. Temperature ranges from 13 to 27 degrees Celsius and it might rain within the first few days. Enough reasons to get wet, be it from in- or outside. The more important it was to prepare a lightweight set of clothes that carry humidity out and protect me from wind and rain. For the inner layer I chose underwear from Odlo's Cubic Light series comprising underpants and a long sleeved shirt. To prevent chaffing I will be wearing a pair of Nike skins.

That should carry me to Cape Town. I just received two new pairs of running shoes from my favourite running brand and sponsor Brooks. Thanks a lot for your uncomplicated, generous support.

Numo Systems, sponsor and preferred provider of cutting edge running advisory, running shoes and sports inserts has kindly provided me with a second pair of custom made inserts for my second pair of Brooks. Thanks a lot, you are a great team!
